About Pokémon SoulGold and rahtak
SoulGold is listed on Hackdex as a project by @rahtak. The documentation repository is Eemeliri/soulgold.
Current Hackdex version: v1.2 (released 2026-10-03). The listing describes an expanded, purely Johto-focused experience based on an unofficial Heart & Soul expansion port, not affiliated with official Heart and Soul 2.0.
What SoulGold is built on
- Base game: Pokémon Emerald, via the pret decompilation and RHH’s pokeemerald-expansion (the README cites expansion 1.15).
- Johto content: smithk200’s port of most of Heart & Soul to pokeemerald-expansion, built on the work of the HnS Dev Team.
- Feature branches: the README credits dozens of community branches, from the multi-ability system (bassforte123) and Battle Arcade (PokemonSanFran) to using HMs without teaching them (devolov), level scaling (fisham33), and the HQ audio mixer (ipatix).
- Art: Rafael Sanna’s custom Mega sprites for Typhlosion, Primarina, and Meowscarada and mugshots for Kris, Archer, and Ariana, plus Mega follower sprites added in v1.2.
How fast the project moves
This site first documented v1.0.4.5 on 2026-08-19. Since then the project has tagged v1.1.1, v1.1.2, v1.1.3, v1.1.4, andv1.2 — five releases in about six weeks — plus documentation updates between them. That pace is why we date every version reference and keep achangelog.
Credits (official README, abbreviated)
The README credits the HnS Dev Team, smithk200’s expansion port, Rafael Sanna (custom Mega sprites and mugshots), RHH / pokeemerald-expansion, TeamAquaHideout, Estellar, PokemonSanFran, Kasenn, bassforte123, Ravepossum, Greenphx9, Mudskip, Ghoulslash, CFRU/Skeli, and many artists for sprites, icons, tiles, music, and battle backgrounds. The full list is on GitHub. The project asks that users also credit the makers of Pokémon Heart and Soul because those assets are used, and credit RHH for pokeemerald-expansion.

About this site
soulgold.run is an unofficial fan site. It is not run by rahtak, Hackdex, or the documentation maintainers. Every fact on the guide pages is taken from Hackdex, the GitHub releases, or the official documentation and links back to its source; where the official sources disagree (for example, how Dive is unlocked), the pages say so instead of picking one. If you spot something out of date, the official docs win.
