Bug reports
Pokémon SoulGold Community, Discord, and Reddit
Official bug-report guide: be on the latest Hackdex build, use a listed emulator, then report on the hack Discord or GitHub Issues.
Before you report
- Confirm you are on the latest version at Hackdex SoulGold. It is v1.2 as of 2026-10-14; the changelog lists what each release fixed.
- Use a supported emulator from that page: real hardware, mGBA (desktop or RetroArch), Pizza Boy, or Lemuroid. Do not report bugs from VBA or GPSP, and avoid Manic, which has reported saving issues. The author will not take reports from potentially inaccurate emulators.
- Then report in the hack Discord named by the official guide, or open an issue on Eemeliri/soulgold.
This site does not invent a Discord invite. If a public invite is added to official docs, it can be linked here later.
What makes a useful bug report
The project ships fixes quickly: there were five releases between v1.1.1 (1 September) and v1.2 (3 October). A report that can be reproduced is far more likely to land in the next build. Include:
- The version shown on Hackdex when you patched, and whether you updated an older save.
- Your emulator and platform, for example “mGBA 0.10 on Windows” or “Lemuroid on Android”.
- Where it happened (route, building, battle facility) and what you did right before it.
- A screenshot of the text box, battle, or map tile involved.
- If it is a battle bug, the Pokémon, abilities, innates, and moves involved. Many fixes in the v1.2 notes are ability interactions, such as Simple with Belly Drum.
Before filing: is it actually a bug?
Several things players report are intended behaviour, according to the official FAQ:
- No Kanto. SoulGold is Johto only.
- Innates unlock late. They are postgame progression. You can turn them on early, or off entirely, from the bookcases in Elm’s lab.
- Gym battles are doubles on Hard mode unless another setting forces singles.
- Roamers flee when they wake up. Since v1.2 they cannot flee while asleep.
- Cheats corrupt saves. Cheats are not supported, so problems after using codes are not bugs.
More of these are on the FAQ page.
Reddit and search
“Pokémon SoulGold Reddit” threads mix Nintendo SoulSilver with this hack. Prefer official docs and GitHub over unverified ROM posts. The r/PokemonROMhacks weekly questions thread is a reasonable place for “how do I” questions; bugs belong in the official channels above. Treat any post offering a pre-patched SoulGold ROM as unofficial: the FAQ says Hackdex is the only source.
