Play Pokémon SoulGold in Your Browser
Import your legally patched SoulGold ROM once. This browser keeps a private local copy, so later visits start directly without another file prompt.

Checking for a saved SoulGold game…
How to play here
- Get the official patch from Hackdex SoulGold. Patching is local in the browser there.
- Use a legally obtained Pokémon Emerald ROM as the base. Hackdex hosts the patch, not the ROM.
- Return here and choose the patched file once. It is stored only in this browser; later clicks start it directly.
If you prefer a dedicated emulator, Hackdex lists real hardware, mGBA (desktop and RetroArch), Pizza Boy, and Lemuroid, and warns against VBA, GPSP, and Manic. See the download page for that path.
There is no official hosted SoulGold ROM for this site to embed. After the one-time import, the homepage and this page reuse the same browser-local copy.
What the browser player can and cannot do
The embedded EmulatorJS frame supplies the GBA runtime, but it does not provide a SoulGold download. The first import is saved in IndexedDB for this site origin and is never uploaded by the player. Use Replace saved ROM only when you update the patch or want a different build.
- Load only a ROM you are legally entitled to use.
- Use the browser player for a quick session or compatibility check.
- Export saves before clearing browser data or changing devices.
When a dedicated emulator is better
For long sessions, reliable save management, controller configuration, or real-hardware transfer, use one of the supported options listed by Hackdex. The download guide lists mGBA, RetroArch with the mGBA core, Pizza Boy, Lemuroid, and real hardware. The browser player is an optional convenience, not a replacement for the official patch or your own backup process.
Updating to a new version
SoulGold updates often; v1.2 came out on 2026-10-03. When you patch a new version, use Replace saved ROM to load it. The official FAQ says saves are forward-compatible, so an older save keeps working on a newer patch, but you cannot go back to an older version afterwards. Export your save before replacing the ROM in case you need to restore it. The changelog lists what each release changed.
Controls and saving tips
- Save in game before closing the tab. Browser storage can be cleared by privacy settings or by clearing site data.
- Use the in-game options menu for text speed, the v1.2 Fast HM animation option, and battle music.
- Avoid restoring save states across different SoulGold versions; save in game instead.
- If something looks broken, reproduce it on a supported emulator before filing a bug. See how to report bugs.
